1. Wet the inside of the cone with water and place it on top of a piece of cardboard or other non-absorbent surface.

2. Scoop approximately 500 mL (0.5 L) of concrete into the cone using a shovel or trowel. Use care not to overfill the cone.

3. Place your thumb over the top opening of the cone and lift it straight up, being careful not to jostle or shake the cone too much (this will cause air bubbles to form in the concrete). Hold the cone at shoulder level and wait for 10 seconds before proceeding to step 4.

4. After 10 seconds have passed, quickly remove your thumb from the top opening and allow the concrete to flow out onto the cardboard or other surface below. Once all ofthe concrete has been discharged fromthe cone, measurethe heightof themoundofconcrete that has formed (this is your “slump”). The average value for construction applications should be between 3-5 inches (7-12 cm). If your measurement falls outside this range, you will need to adjust either your mix design or how you are placing/finishingthe concrete onsite .
